A Philadelphia message states that Lady Wilkins will not accompany her husband in his submarine Polar trip. In a speech at the annual dinner of the Geographical Society, Sir Hubert Wilkins said his wife would accompany him as far as Norway, hut that was as far as she would go. It was the duty of the leader of any expedition to look after the welfare of every member. He was not expected to look after the welfare <if any particular one. “That leaves wives out,” said Sir Hubert. “We are not definitely sure that we can get through, though we believe we will. However, if we do not someone else will.” r COLD MEDAL AWARDED. (Received This Day, 8.30 a.m.) MONTREAL, March 12. At a dinner in his honour at Philadelphia, Sir Hubert Wilkins received the Kane gold medal from the Geographical Society for his outstanding achievement in-exploration. Sir Hubert inspected his Arctic submarine, and said the work was going along splendidly. The first'of the trials will he a trip to New York, where he will re-christen the submarine “Nautilus ” Thence he proceeds to Newfoundland for final tests.
