BIBLE SOCIETY.

THE ASHBURTON BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Ashburton branch of,the British and Foreign Biblo Society was held on Thursday afternoon in the Baptist School Hall. There was a fair attendance, presided over by the president (the Rev. A. J. Petrie), who also conducted Devotional exercises.

The secretary read a letter from Airs Alatthews, former president of the Society, thanking the members for the gift of an autograph hook hearing the signatures of the donors. The treasurer reported that several additional sums of money had been handed in since the last meeting; bringing the total collected for 1929 to £75.

Referring to the Ribles in the hotel bedrooms provided for the travelling public, Air Petrie stated that while this was entirely the work of the British and Foreign. Bible Society, the money to provide them was not taken from the funds collected each year. It was decided to collect this year between July 21 and 31 and that the date of the next meeting be August 21. As no collecting had been done formerly in some of the country districts, arrangements were discussed as to the best onethods of collecting in the future. x The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, the Rev. A. J. Petrie; secretary, Aliss A. C. Watson; treasurer. Airs Grainger ; Social Committee, Alesdames Beck, Baigent and White.
