ENTERED BY BURGLAR

A SHOP IN WELLINGTON. A DARING UNDERTAKING. (Special to the “Guardian.”) WELLINGTON, April 11. After forcing an entry into the shop of Preston and Co.j pork butchers, m Courtenay Place, on Wednesday night, burglars found the cash register empty The drawers had purposely been left open to save them from being forced by any intruders. The'burglars evidently gained access to the shop by going up a right-of-way next to the Post Office, scaling a wall and breaking a window. The attempt is regarded as being somewhat daring, as in forcing their way into the shop the intruders must have made some noise, thereby taking the risk of being heard in a busy locality. The interior of the shop could be plainly seen from the outside, there being only a steel network on the panels of the front door, and it would have been a simple matter for any passing pedestrian to view the operations. AN AUCKLAND ROBBERY. OCCUPIED HOUSE ENTERED. AUCKLAND, April 11. Entering the home ,of Commandei*B. L. Hewitt, at Remuera, while it was occupied, an intruder stole a sum of money in a handbag and' a diamond ring valued at £45 from a bedroom occupied by Lady Tuck, who was staying with Commander and Mrs Hewitt. A handbag containing £2 10s was also stolen from a room on the other side of the house. The robbery took place while Lady Tuck and Commander and Mrs Hewitt were in the drawing-room in the evening, and was not discovered until Ladv Tuck went to her bedroom about 9.30 o’clock.
