RUGBY FOOTBALL.
CLUB FORMED AT MT. SOMERS. Undeterred by the lack of support accorded two previous -meetings, football enthusiasts at Mount Somers had their desires brought to fruition on Thursday evening, when a largely attended meeting, over which Mr R. Beckley presided, decided to form a club, to be known as the Mount Somers Football Club. It was decided to apply to the Ashburton Rugby Union for affiliation and registration of members and that a junior team be entered in the county competitions. It was decided to register the club’s colours, black jerseys with yellow body and arm hands. It was decided to seek Mr G. Nell’s permission to nlay on his property, until suitable arrangements are made with the Domain Board. The questions of travelling arrangements, opening day, and the appointment of a delegate to the Rugby Union were held over until next meeting. The following officers were elected: President, Mr D. W. Her ron; vice-presidents, Messrs A. N. Grigg, E. C. Wood, G. L. Nell, J. A. Mears, H. Tinker, G. Patton: club captain. Mr R. Beckley; vice-captain, Mr G. Harris; lion secretary and treasurer, Mr R. Beckley; committee, Messrs A. R. Beckley,_ W. McClimont, J, T.JJull. The captain was appointed sole selector.
