Tuesday even- 1 ing last a social was given by the members of the Methven Christian Endeavour Society to bid farewell to Mr 'L. A. White (Methodist minister). Allenton Debating Society.—There was a good attendance at the annua] meeting of the Allenton Debating .society last evening. Sileoek, junr. : secretary and treasurer, Mr James Smith; commit--' tee, Mrs Millers, Misses Campbell, turner and A. Hewson, and Messrs Buxt-on and Cambridge. It was decided to start the Society’s session next Friday. i County Council.—At the Comity t ouncu meeting yesterday, speaking of Council representation on the Lvtteiton Harbour Board, Councillor Friedlander said that the Council might, if they had chosen, have had the right to elect two representatives on the Lyttelton Harbour Board. He thought it was a pity that the Council, had not availed themselves of the opportunity to have a clause to this effect inserted m the Act when it was before Parliament. The Selwyn C-onnty Council had three representatives on the Board
