Tuesday even- 1 ing last a social was given by the members of the Methven Christian Endeavour Society to bid farewell to Mr 'L. A. White (Methodist minister). Mr White was the recipient of a handsome Morocco writing desk. Songs were given by,Misses Duff (3), Westbrook, Messrs Rands (2), and Ironside; recitations by Aliss M. Campbell and Mr Swan. “ limvald Sunday School Social.—The annual social in connection with the I inwald Methodist Sunday Schfcbl was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall yesterday evening. Lill, N. McMillan, M. Lill, Messrs O. Trevurza, J. Pratley, D. Sutherland and M. Williams. Addresses were given ,)y the Revs. Peters and Stockwell. Allenton Debating Society.—There was a good attendance at the annua] meeting of the Allenton Debating .society last evening. A satisfactory balance-sheet was presented and adoptod, and officers for the ensuing year v ere elected as follow:—President y r h S ' Harris, junr.; vice-president, Mr \Y. Sileoek, junr. : secretary and treasurer, Mr James Smith; commit--' tee, Mrs Millers, Misses Campbell, turner and A. Hewson, and Messrs Buxt-on and Cambridge. It was decided to start the Society’s session next Friday. i County Council.—At the Comity t ouncu meeting yesterday, speaking of Council representation on the Lvtteiton Harbour Board, Councillor Friedlander said that the Council might, if they had chosen, have had the right to elect two representatives on the Lyttelton Harbour Board. He thought it was a pity that the Council, had not availed themselves of the opportunity to have a clause to this effect inserted m the Act when it was before Parliament.
