ADVANCE ASHBURTON.

Sir, —Under the above heading I notice a “committee” waited on the Borough Council to discuss the terms on which part of Allenton would be included in the Borough boundaries. Now, Sir, I wish to know where the “committee” got their authority for any such action. I presume it is the outcome of an 'open-air meeting held on the banks of the Alford Forest drain, at which about 12 ratepayers were present.

I am not going to discuss the merits or demerits of inclusion in the Borough, but I do think that in common fairness to the 265 ratepayers that a public meeting should be called to discuss the pros and cons of the question before negotiations are carried any further with the Borough, Council. As I had something to do with a previous movement for inclusion in the Borough, I might be able to give the ratepayers some information re the same of which they are ignorant. Thanking you in anticipation. > W. ACTON.
