CAR FALLS IN STREAM. TWO OCCUPANTS INJURED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A motor-car containing Mr and Mrs Kuhn, of Queen’s Private Hotfel, crashed through a bridge railing at Pahautaxiui and fell into a stream. Both Mr and Mrs Kuhn were considerably injured, but the other occupants escaped. BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR. (Special to the “Guardian.”) 1 WELLINGTON, April 5. Lying half submerged in an ebbing tide in one of the less frequented bays of the harbour near Muritai, the naked body of an elderly man was found shortly before 1 p.m. yesterday. ' The body was identified as that of John George Hardie. Some time afterwards the dead man’s clothes were found carefully placed together on a rock above the high water mark. From this it has been assumed that Mr Hardie went in for a bathe. The beach is entirely deserted on most week days. Although at high tide the bay is an excellent spot, it is not so good at low tide, and is risky for poor swimmers. INFANT DIES AFTER BURN. WELLINGTON, April 5. Apparently a harmless burn from a teapot while sitting on his mother’s knee led to complications which resulted in the death of James Alfred Swan, aged two. Mr T. B. McNeil, the Coroner, found at the conclusion of an inquest on the child yesterday that death was due to toxaemia arising from the burn. Mrs Rita Swan, of 58, Harper Street, the mother of the child, said that he was sitting on her knee at the table. A silver teapot was nearby and the child touched it with his hare arm. She treated the burn with ointment and it healed rapidly, but a few days later the child appeared “out of sorts” and could not eat. The arm then began to swell and a chemist ad-

vised witness to apply oiled silk to it. She took him home, and while bathing him he had a convulsive fit. Efforts were made to secure a doctor, and finally the child was taken to hospital, where he died soon after. Dr. Bettina M. Collier said that the burn appeared to be quite clean. She considered that death was due to toxaemia developed as the result of the burn. MOTOR-CYCLIST KILLED. PALMERSTON N., This Day. While riding a motor-cycle from Wanganui toward Palmerston North last evening, Mr E. Branders, residing at 46A Devon Street, Wellington, collided on the Sanson road with a vserviee car, sustaining injuries from which he died later in the Palmerston North Hospital. A passenger on the pillion, and another in the side-car escaped.
