OBITUARY.
MR FREDERICK MARTIN. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, This Day. A well-known resident of Timaru, Mr F. C. Martin, who was spending a holiday in the city with Mrs Martin, died suddenly at Christchurch yesterday. Mr Martin was overtaken by a seizure while travelling in a tram, and was dead before he could be taken to a private hospital nearby. Mr Martin came from England many years ago, and for many years held a responsible position with Messrs J. Ballantyne and Co. in Christchurch. About 1914 he retired from the business, and went to England on a holiday trip. While there he met Mr Ballantyne, who brought him back to take charge of the Timaru establishment, and he occupied the position of manager there until about five years ago, when he retired from business, and after a trip to England settled in Timaru. In 1918 Mr Martin married Miss Jessie Morrison, a member of an old Timaru family, and a year or two ago purchased a home in Sarah Street. Mr Martin was a prominent member of the Timaru Bowling Club, the South Canterbury Savage Club, and other institutions in the town.
