OBSCENE LANGUAGE.
MARRIED MAN FINED. In the Ashburton Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr W. H. Rundle, J.P., and Mr G. Kelly, J.P.. George William Spicer, aged 50, a marriedman, was charged with haying used obscene language in Cambridge Street. Accused pleaded guilty ; and elected to be dealt with summarily. Senior-Sergeant H. Martin stated that a complaint, had reached the police regarding accused’s behaviour on Saturday night. He was arrested at midnight, and had been locked up since then. had been the cause of the trouble. The police had had to go to accused’s place before. Some men thought the police could not arrest them if Jliey used bad language in their own homes. .So long as the language could be heard on the street the police could make an arrest. Accused was , fined £2, in default three days in gaol.
