SAMOAN AFFAIRS.
THE FINAL FONO. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON. March 21. The final fono at Apia on March 7 of ,Mau representatives and the authorities of Western Samoa was notable for the submission by the Man for consideration of seventeen points, summarising some of the grievances of the disaffected section. Mr S. S. Allen replied in general terms promising to consider the matters submitted. They include a request for free pardons for the leaders, except in' the case of serious crime such as murder. Dissatisfaction! is expressed with regard to the verdict at the inquest on Tamosese, and others, alleging trat the evidence of many who witnessed the happenings could not be taken, owing to the Administrator refusing a safe conduct. The final points concerns the Treaty of 1889 entered into by Great Britain, America and Germany, the Mau asking why, when the Protectorate over Western Samoa was taken over by New Zealand, it was not continued under the terms of the Treaty. This concerns Samoa for Samoans, or the right to conduct their own Government under .the protection of the Powers.
