MEMORIAL DEDICATED

THE LATE REV. F. J. WISEMAN.

CEREMONY AT ST. STEPHEN’S. A dedication service in memory of the former Vicar, the late Rev. J. F. Wiseman, was held at St. Stephen’s Church yesterday morning, when there was an attendance of over 400, including several men from the Tuarangi Home, in whom the late Vicar always took a keen interest. After the reading of the second lesson, the Vicar (the Rev. A. J. Petrie) asked Dean J. A. Julius, of Christchurch, in the name of the Vicar and churchwardens of the parish, to dedicate the memorial. The memorial took the form of the addition of two oak' wings to the reredos, and two carved oak chancel chairs. The following inscription was engraved in the wing, and was also contained on a silver plate on each of the chairs: “In memoriam, John Franklyn Wiseman, Vicar, 1919-1928.” The sermon was preached hy Dean Julius, who took his text from, the incident of the woman of Samaria at the well. He made reference to the goodness l of heart of the late Mr Wiseman.

Appropriate lessons were read and special hymns sung, including the anthem “Hark, Hark, My Soul,” the soloists being Mesdames H. Naylor (contralto) and A. T. Smith. The carving on the reredos and chairs was the work of Mr F. G. Guernsey, of Christchurch.
