TINWALD SALE YARDS.
APPLICATION FOR A BOOTH.
COMMITTEE HOLDS MATTER OVER.
At the annual meeting of the Temuka Licensing Committee yesterday, E. Doyle, of Chertsey, applied for a license to have a booth at Tinwald on sale days. Mr Raymond said that Mr Doyle ; was the licensee of the Chertsey Hotel and with the consent of the owners of the yardSj he was applying for permission to conduct a booth on sale days. He understood' that a similar license was granted in respect to the sale at Addington. Under the Act the Committee had power to grant such a license. The chairman: "What is the necessity for it?" Mr Raymond: "The distance from any licensed houses. The sale was well patronised and there was a feeling that the liquor should be sold openly, and it would then bo under proper control." The chairman: "In' that case, there was nothing to prevent the people of ] Ashburton spending a holiday at Tinwald." I
Mr Raymond: "No, no reason at all but there is a club at Ashburton if they want it."
The chairman said that the Committee would not express an opinion at present, but they would take into consideration what Mr Raymond had said. The matter would be left with the chairman and two members to deal with.
