About a year ago the Herzogin Cecilie and the Beatrice, both wheat-la-den, left Port Lincoln, South Australia, on the same day, bound for England, and on this occasion the long - ocean race was won by the former ves- ' sel, which arrived in port some four - days ahead of her rival. It was on this voyage of the Herzogin Cecilie, that soon after the ship had put to sea, it was discovered that a girl stowaway was on board. The girl, who proved ", to be Miss Jennie Day, aged about 21, of South Australia, explained' to. the master that she had long wished " to go to sea, and she had conceived the idea of gratifying her wish by stowing away. When discovered she was put to work, and she performed the duties' of cabin boy throughout the • voyage.
