PRIZE-GIVING.
THE SEAFIELD SCHOOL. The annual picnic of the Seafield school was held at the mouth of the Ashburton River. There was a large gathering of children and parents, and an enjoyable time was spent in games and races. Afternoon-tea was provided by the ladies. At the conclusion of the sports the prizes were presented by the chairman (Mr R. J. Martin) as follows:
Primer 1 (lower): Shirley Driscoll, Alastair Martin. Primer 1 (upper): George Moorhead. Primer 2: Eddie Davis 1, Ken McDonald 2. Standard 21: Joyce Mitchell 1. Standard 2: Ralph Greer 1. Standard 3: Nancy Bennison. Standard 4: Joan Driscoll. Standard 5: Mary Martin. Standard 6: Hetty Johnson 1 and proficiency, Jarves Martin proiiciecy. Specials—Senior sewing (Mrs W. J. Dent's prize): Hetty Johnson. Junior sewing (Mrs A. Gregory's prize): Nancy Bennison. Agriculture Committee s prize: Hetty Johnson and Joyce Mitchell (equal) 1, Jarvis Martin and Allan Baynes 2. Neatness (Messrs J. Jackson's and N. Dew's pnz.es): Mary Martin and Hetty Johnson (equal) 1. Maitland Cup (for dux of school): Hetty Johnson. At the conclusion, three hearty cheers were given by the children for the teacher (Mr N. J. Drew).
