SERIOUSLY INJURED
SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
YOUTH'S BOTH HANDS HURT.
WELL-KNOWN FOOTBALLER. Gordon Cartwright, aged 19, and residing at 23 Belt Road, Allenton, received serious injuries as the result of a shooting accident yesterday. With a party of four, lie went shooting in the Greenstreet district, and a halt was made for luncheon shortly before mid-day. Cartwright was standing with both hands over the muzzle of the gun, Avhen it exploded, badly shattering his right hand and injuring his left hand. A horse and trap were quickly obtained, and Cartwright was conveyed to the County Hospital, where his injuries were dressed. His condition this afternoon was still serious, but it is hoped that his right hand can be 6aved.
It is thought the explosion was caused through Cartwright's leg touching the trigger. He was known to be always extremely careful in the handling of firearms. Cartwright is employed as a hairdresser by Mr H. C. Percy, East Street. He *is a prominent Rugby footballer, a member of the Allenton Club, and represented the County on several occasions. He is well known as a runner, and is also a member of the Allenton Tennis Club.
