CARS IN PAWN.
SOLD FOR CUPS OF COFFEE. PARIS, December 29. Motor-cars and motor-cycles are fast becoming as numerous as the timehonoured watch for the purpose of pledging. The municipal pawnshop to-day requested the Paris Council to vote £75,000 for the erection of a three-storeyed garage to house the cars. Thus far 600 are in pawn, there being no fewer than 190 pledged this year. Another use for the motor-car is reported from Rome, the owner selling his car to a cafe proprietor for 10,000 coffees. The cafe is bound to provide coffee to the seller or his friends as often as may be requested. It is calculated that it will take between six and eight years to pay off the debt.—Australian Press Association.
