AERIAL CRUISE TO AFRICA. THE LATEST ADVENTURE. -An aerial tour to Nairobi, Kenya Colony, and South Africa began recently, when Mr T. Thistlewayte and Lieutenant Commander Glen Kidston left Croydon aerodrome in the Fokker tliree-engined monoplane Ceil Bleu, formerlv the property of the late Mr Alfred Loewenstem. Captain: Donald Drey, of Imperial Airways, Mr Loewenstein’s pilot, is again piloting tne machine. The party also includes Mr Whatley as mechanic, and Mr Brand, who is carrying out the duties of valet. They intend to make an aerial survey generally, stopping en route for big game shooting, a feature of the journey being the taking or kinematograph pictures which will provide a pictorial record of the trip and of the game encountered. Ino machine was, prior to departure, specially equipped so that pictures may easily be taken from the air, while the “plant” aboard will provide up-to-date facilities for taking moving pictures of any hunting excursions which may take place. . , “The route proposed is by trance, Italy, Malta, Tripoli, Egypt, and Sudan,” one of the party said to a Press representative just prior to a departure from Croydon aerodrome. “No difficulty is anticipated until the machine reaches the final stage of its outward journey, when the small aerodromes at high altitudes may cause a certain difficulty in landing this largo machine. It is hoped to reach the destination in about ten days. Un arrival at Nairobi, the owners propose to go on a two months’ safari, tne heavy luggage and equipment having been sent on in advance. Later it is possible that the trip may be continued to Capetown, the return journey being made by a slightly different route. No cabled information lias so tar been received ini New Zealand as to the success or otherwise of the adventure.
