HORSE AND CAB.

SALE AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, December 27. People who want to make a ,good investment are not advised to get a hansom cab built. Depreciation onl these vehicles is too high. Old yellow "Carbine," which stood for so many patient hours in front of the Anglican Cathedral, was owned by the late Mr Charles ("Bun") Parker who died a few weeks ago. It was a splendid example of the caibbuilder's art, the pride of one of the last of the hansom-builders. Rumour says that when it was new, it cost well over £IOO. Yet under the hammer when it was sold by H. Matson and Co., it found an owner who had to pay orilv l £5 15s for it. Shades of the cabbies of yore! Though it is suggested that the yountr man who bought the old cab may intend io run it in his spare time, some people think that he intends to keep it until it is valuable as a curio. Or, again, he may be going to use it in the "movie" industry. Or, perhaps, he has bought it to keep in a yard 1 where men from the country who have often, when in their cups, been driven to their hotels in it, may by paying a moderate fee, weep sentimental tears over, it. Or he may not. The horse which stood so long between the shafts of the old cab proved more valuable than the vehicle it drew. It was a fairly well->bred trotter, '.but apparently it proved too slow for the track for it was given) to "Bun" by a well-known hotelkeeper, if tradition speaks truly. It was sold for £9 10s.
