AUSTRALIAN LADIES' TITLE.
MISS OLIVE KAY IN THE LEAD

In dull, showery weather and on a heavy course, the first qualifying round of the Australian women's golf championship was commenced. At the end of the hist round the leading six players were: —
Miss Olive Kay (New Zealand) ... 77 Miss McLeod (Victoria) ... ... 82 Miss Triglone (New South Wales) bj Miss Hay (Victoria) S 4 Mrs Gatehouse (Victoria) ... ... «o Miss Susie Tolhurst (New South Wales) ... 8o
Miss Kay played remarkable golf, especially over the last nine holes, which she covered in 35, finishing the round in 77 which broke the Rose Bayi record lor associates. Miss Kay made a few errors, chiefly on the greens, going out, but played clockwork golf cominsi home. . Others who qualified included Miss Snadgrass (New Zealand). A thirty-six hole stroke handicap tor the Challenge bowl is being played m conjunction with the championship. After the first round the: leaders were;— Mrs Slack (New South Wales) i 5, Mrs Binnie (New South Wales) 75, Miss M. Hill (New South Wales) 7b, Miss O. Kay (New Zealand) 77.
THE ASHBURTON CLUB. The qualifying round of the senior and junior championships will be played by the Ashburton Golf CI lib to-mor-row.
