“A ROCKET CAR.”

TO BEAT ALL RECORDS. CLAIMS FOR GERMAN INVENTION (United Press Association—Copyright). BERLIN, April 13. The belief that all speed records can be beaten by a “rocket car” appears in a statement issued by the Opel Motor Company, which claims that Max Valier, nicknamed the “Cosmos Flyer,” owing to his idea of building a rocket which can be shot into space, has invented a motor-car driven like a rocket by* combustible powder instead of petrol. The company says that the motorcar has attained a speed of 100 kilometres an hour within eight seconds of starting. It will shortly make an effort to break Malcolm Campbell s record, which will necessitate the rocket car travelling on a railway track. The company adds that the machine is only a step toward a rocket air, machine which will be able to reach higher altitudes than have ever yet been attained. . The conviction is expressed that within the year such a machine, without a crew, will even penetrate space. —Australian Press Association.
