FLIGHT TO AUSTRALIA

MANNING NEARLY READY. LONE JOURNEY PROPOSED. LONDON, March 28. Wing-Commander Edye R. Manning,, formerly of New' South "Wales, and now second in command of the Royal Air Force depot at Uxbridge, is contemplating a lone flight to Australia to begin shortly. The airman, who served in the British Air Force during the war, will use a Westland Widgeon light ’plane. Inquiries disclosed the fact that Wing-Commander Manning has made extensive preparations for the flight, and intends using his service furlough to re-visit relatives and friends in Sydney. London friends assert that Manning’s arrangements have reached such a stage that he could start in 10 days. He visited the High Commissioner for Australia, Sir Granville Ryrie, at Australia House to-day. It is understood that Manning planned the trip before Mr Bert Hinkler’s flight, and recently discussed, with civil aviation authorities, several routes, including Hinkler’s, and also an alternative route by way of Tmrkey.
