LOOKING BACK
TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” April 13, 1903). Ashburton Amateur Cycling and Athletic Club. —The above club held a sports meeting on the Domain Oval yesterday. Some very creditable performances were put up. In the 220 yards final H. H. Fraser finished in the line time of 22 l-ssecs. The most successful competitors were Hoare: hirst 100 yards, second 220 yards, second 440 yards handiesap, and Anderson, second 'IOO yards, third 220 yards handicap, second officials’ race. Monarty, with three firsts, was the only outstanding cyclist. Football.—A football match was played on the Domain on Easter Monday between teams representing \\ oolston and Ashburton Excelsior Club. After a hard, fast, and interesting game, the match ended in a dinn, neither side scoring. Annual sports at Chertsey.—l he Chertsey annual sports meeting was held in the Chertsey Domain yesterday. The Methven Band was in attendance. J Davison was in excellent form, winning the 100, 220 and 440 yards handicap races from scratch.
