FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS. THE REGULATIONS APPROVED

Prompt effect has been given by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research to the provisions of the Act relative to the establishment of national research schokrshius. Suggested regulations outlining details of the scheme and defining the method of procedure have now been framed, and as Cabinet lias approved them it is reasonable, to expect that they will be gazetted at an early date. • , ~ The regulations adopted by the council make provision for an annual award of four national research scholarships to graduates of tho New Zealand University or other qualified persons to enable them to carry on research in any branch of science or economics Adue proportion of scholarships will be offered for the purpose of encouraging research in connection with matters relating to the industries of JNew Z,eaiand Each scholarship wdl be of the value of £IBO per annum ana a grant, net exceeding a total of £2o will be made to defray the cost of special apparatus or special books required for research and cost of transit while the scholar is engaged on the work.
