CHRISTMAS EVE LOSSES.

STOLEN FROM CAR. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Two thefts which occurred on Christmas Eve have been reported to the police. Mr A. E. Ackkroyd, on visiting his house at Sumner on Friday, found that thieves had made a “clean sweep” of everything movable. Among the articles stolen were bedding, cutlery and kitchen utensils.

Mr A. Britten, of the Butler Cycle Works, was another sufferer. He left his car standing outside his business premises in Colombo l Street on Friday evening, and on returning later found that £lO worth of presents had been taken from the front seat.. On Friday night a house was entered at Moule Street, Addington, and money and jewellery to the value of £5 taken.

HOTEL ROBBERY IN AUCKLAND. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, December 27. A daring robbery was carried out. in the early hours of Christmas morning at the Central Hotel, Victoria Street, when a guest had £SO in notes stolen from his room. The intruder apparently worked with great care, for the owner of the money and his wife, who were visiting Auckland for the holidays, were both asleep in the room between midnight and S o’clock in the morning when the notes disappeared. They w T ere left ini a pocket of a suit of clothes which was thrown oyer the end of the bed, but when the owner dressed in the morning and placed his hand in his pocket it was empty.
