COUNTY CENTRES.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) HINDS, The Hinds branch of tho Plunkct Society held a special meeting at tho residence of Mrs D. T. Patterson last evening, when there was a good attendance. The president (Mrs C. Cottam) and several members made feeling reference to the loss sustained by the Society by the removal from the district of Mrs R. McCully (secretary). Mrs Cottam, on behalf of the members, presented her with a Windsor art ware vase and a Shelley jug. Mrs McCully suitably acknowledged the gift. After supper had been handed round the meeting terminated with the singing of "Auld Lang Syno."

STAVELEY. The north-westers experienced during the last few days have had a drying effect on vegetation, whicb, up to the present, has not suffered to anv extent, though rain would bo welcome. Convened by the Hall Society, a meeting of ladies was held on Tuesday night. A fair number of ladies and members of the society were present. The ladies unanimously agreed to work for a bazaar, for the purpose of raising funds for the renovation of the hall. Mrs D. A. Syme was appointed chairwoman pro tern. It was also decided to hold a dance, at which function the lady who has lived longest in the district is to be asked to switch on the electric light. CHERTSEY. The school celebrated its break-up by sports in the domain, where the children had an enjoyable time, thanks to tho exertions of the master and tho members of the committee. In the evening a concert was held and the distribution of prizes took place. There wais a large attendance. Most of the items were given by tho children, under the direction of the master, Mr Doubleday. The chief item was the play "Aladdin." In this, parts were taken by Winnie Foreman, Hannah Cronin, Grace Relief, Jen-y Cronin, Jack Doyle and Stanley Doyle. Songs were also given by the children. A sailor's hornpipe was danced by Maurice Williamson. The parts in a dialogue, entitled "Tho Terrible Journey," were taken by Alice Dunn, Monioai Cain, Vera Cain and Leonie Cain. Songs were given by Messrs G. Struthers, L. Oakley and A. Oakley. The accompanistes for the evening were Mrs W. Kemp and Miss Beta Ironside. The school prizes were distributed by the chairman, Mr R. Croy .who complimented Mr Doubleday on' the excellent concert programme given by tho children. A dance followed, Mr Croy being M.C., and music was supplied by Mr W. Rankin.
