ITALY AND ENGLAND.

CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS. MOSUL AND THE NEW TREATY. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) LONDON, December 30. A meeting between Sir Austen Chamberland (Foreign Secretary) and Signor Mussolini (Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs), was made convenient owing to both being on brief holidays at comparatively adjacent places. The former is at Rapollo, and the latter, who has been spending Christmas week with his family at Milan, interrupted his journey to Rome and met Sir Austen Chamberlain last night, when, after a civic reception, Signor Mussolini and Sir Austen Chamberlain dined at the Hotel Bristol, where the latter is staying. Signor Mussolini intends continuing his journey to Rome to-day for a meeting of the Council of Ministers, and a consultation with Signor Volpi, prior to tho latter's going to London for the war debt conversations. It is naturally assumed that that subject was discussed by Sir Austen Chamberlain and Signor Mussolini, also the subject of disarmament, on which it is known the latter holds decided views not in accord with those of the British foreign Secretary. It is also expected that the repercussions of the Turco-Russian Treaty were reviewed. Meanwhile, Tefik Rushdy Bey, lurkish Minister of Foreign Affairs, has arrived from Angora, and in a statement to the Press he described the Geneva decision regarding Mosul a® "forming only one phase of tho negotiations which are yet to take place on this vital question." Tho statement is significant, showing that the Government does not share tho derisive attitude so far adopted by the Turkish Press toward the tentative negotiations with London. The "Daily Herald" states that despite all attempts at secrecy, there as no question but that Signor Mussolini is seriously ill. The doctors declare that an operation is urgently necessary, and they are not confident ot the result,

CORDIAL POSSIBILITIES. HARMONISING OF INTERESTS. (Received This Day, 11.50 a.m.) (Reuter.) ROME, Dec. 30, Beyond the broad statement that conversations proved the cordial possibility of efficaciously pursuing the collaboration at present existing between the two countries, with a view to harmonising the various interests for the consolidation of peace in Europe the official communique throws little light on the Rapollo conversations. It_ is believed that the imminent negotiations in London for the settlement of Italy s debt was one of the chief topics discussed.
