ASTONISHING DIVORCE
A BIRTH CERTIFICATE. PROBLEM FOR FRENCH COURTS. HUSBAND OFFICIALLY A GIRL. (Per Pre»» Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, July 24. The Paris correspondent of the "Morning Post" states an astonishing divorce suit has been heard in: the courts. The principal party "was registered as a girl in accordance ■ with, a, medical certificate of birth, but latter developed male characteristics. When she married l in 1921 she borrowed her brother's identity papers in order to overcome a legal obstacle due to the fact of being officially of female sex.. The marriage thus took place. The husband served in the war. Later the wife brought a petition for divorce, whereupon the husband produced the birth certificate, and forced the Court to hold that misconduct was impossible as, both parties were proved to be women. The wife's counsel pleaded that this was an absurdity, but the Court pointed 1 out that the civic code ordained that, questions of this kind could not be considered after six months of the marriage.
