REMARKABLE ESCAPE.
EXPLOSION OF SEWER GAS. LITTLE BOY'S CURIOSITY. I LIGHTED MATCH DOWN MANHOLE (Per Press Association—(Vnyright.) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Four children had a remarkable escape from death while playing in the street at Chippendale, when a little boy dropped a lighted match down a sewerage manhole "just to see what would happen." There was a tremendous explosion. The four children were hurled into the air and badly injured. Windows in buildings for hundreds of feet around were shattered. A horse and sulky standing nearby were almost lifted into the air by the force of the explosion, and the animal was enveloped in a sheet of flame, and its tail, mane and hair were practically all burnt, off. The children were sent to the hospital. One, Vincent. Dory, aged 5, is in a serious condition.
