INJURIES AT FOOTBALL. TWO PLAYERS IN HOSPITAL. Two serious accidents occurred during the Rugby football matches on Saturday. A. O'Born, aged 22, a SpringburnMount Somen's player, sustained concussion of the brain through a head-on collision with a Hinds player, at Hinds. He was unconscious when taken to the County Hospital on Saturday night, but has shown an improvement today. George Bennett, a Technical School fourth grade player, had a knee-cap broken right across while playing on the Technical School grounds. No other player was near at the time. Bennett was running for the ball, and suddenly stopped with the pain. It is understood, the knee-cap had been broken before. He was conveyed to the County Hospital.

BROKEN COLLAR-BONE. As a result of being knocked down by a milk-cart at the corner of Waka'nui Road and William Street on Saturday evening, Mr John Cairns, whoi resides in Burnett Street, sustained a broken collar-bone, a sprained left wrist and thumb, and severe abrasions to his face and hands. Medical attention was forthcoming, and the sufferer was removed to his home, where he is reported to be making satisfactory progress toward recovery. CHILD FALLS FROM A ROOF. A boy of 3$ years, the youngest son of Mr Frank Gifkins, of Mount Seniors, fell on his head from the roof of a washhouse on Friday, and was unconscious for several hours. He is receiving medical treatment in Ashburton. Ho is muoh easier to-day, his condition showing a definite improvement. MAN'S SKULL FRACTURED. Lying on the West Melton Road, A. E. Jamieson, of Amberley, was found on Saturday afternoon in an unconscious condition. Beside him was a motor-cycle. He was admitted to the Christchurch Hospital, and was found to be suffering from a fracture of the base of the skull. BODY FOUND IN A CREEK.

When cleaning a sporting gun last evenincr at his mother's residense at Mangapai, David Miller (34) was fatally shot in the abdomen by the accidental explosion of a cartridge, the presence of which in the firearm Miller was unaware. LAD GORED BY A BULL. GISBORNE, May 3. The death occurred this moraine of John Frederick Knight, fifteen years of age, from injuries through heme gored by a bull on his parents' farm at Makauri on April 27. MAN COMMITS SUICIDE. DUNEDIN, May 3 A man named Walter Craig Walker. aged 57, a well-known local teacher of shorthand, was found dead in the parden of his residence on Saturday wit h his throat cut. At an inquest a verdict of suicide while depressed through ill-health was returned. DEATH OF A PRISONER. AUCKLAND, This Day. Ernest Roland Birdling, aged 35. who was brought from. Waikune Prison Camp on April 29, requiring urgent medical attention, died on baturcav night. An inquest was opened this morning and adjourned pending a postmortem. DIES ON A DOORSTEP.
