UPPER ASHBURTON
ROAD BOARD AFFAIRS. The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Upper Ashburton Road Board was held yesterday, Mr Hunter Morris presiding over a small attendance. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £1239 4s 9d. The following transfers of properties were approved:—W. and W. J. Moses to 0. E. Ross, Lot 25, D.P. 2727; E. A. O'Malley to Bank of New Zealand, Lot 13, D.P. 236; Jas. Hampton, Lots 2,3, 4, D.P. 2726. The annual report showed that the Board commenced the year with a credit balance of £1361 14s lOd, and a debit antecedent account of £507 4s lOd. The receipts for the year amouneted to £3465 0s 9d, the chief items being general rate £2616 8s lOd, Government subsidy £IBB 0s Id, rents £136 5s od, other receipts £1534 6s lOd. The sum of £307 3s 2d was expended on the formation and shingling of roads, and repairs and maintenance cost £1742 18s sd.
The report was adopted. At the conclusion of the annual meeting the Board met. There were present: Messrs Hunter Morris (acting chairman), S, H. Lill, R. J. Mulligan, R. Houston, and T. J. Lemon. The Returning Officer reported that Messrs A. Horsey, Lill, Lemon, Mulligan, Morris, and Houston had been reelected' members. Mr A. Horsey was re-elected chairman, Mr H. Morris to act in his absence in England. The Land and Income Tax Department wrote asking the Board to supply the names of persons or firms to whom contracts had been let. The secretary's action in forwarding the list was approved. Messrs Lill and Mulligan reported having inspected the shingle reserve on the Timaru track, and stated that they considered it dangerous to traffic. It was decided to fence the reserve. Mr P. Russell's application for a release of Board's section occupied bv him was granted subject to the Board's conditions being fulfilled. A number of residents had asked for a street light to be erected at the corner of the Belt and Racecourse Read and it was decided to ask the Power Board to do. the work. Mr Morris reported that he had had built a new gate for the gravel reserve on Stringfellow's property. The clerk was instructed to make ar estimate for forming about 30 chains of Fraser's Road. Accounts amounting to. £132 8s 7d were passed for payment.
