COUNTY CENTRES.

(From Our Own Correspondents.) PEKDARVES.

In April, rain fell on five days. On the 16th and 17th 6.42 in. were recorded. The rainfall for April, 1925, was 7.25 m., as compared with 2.73 in. for the corresponding period last year. The rainfall to date for the year 1925 is 11.26 in. The rainfall for the year 1924 was 7.60 in.

Pendarves Hall was the scene of a very pleasant function on Wednesday evening, when a "welcome home gift evening" was tendered to Mr J. B. Lambie and his bride, on their return from their wedding trip. The hall was well filled with a representative gathering from the Pendarves, Seafield, and other districts, where Mr Lambie and his parents, Mi-1 and Mrs Lambie, of Inverell, are well known. Mrs J. Watson welcomed the bride on behalf of those present. She asked the guests to accept the gifts brought that evening as a token of goodwill, and trusted they would be spared .very many years to enjoy them. Mr Lambie suitably responded on behalf of his wife and himself, and there followed the hearty singing' of "For They are Jolly Good Fellows." Mr James Lambie thanked all present for the honour conferred on his son, and indirectly on Mrs Lambie and himself, by this gathering; and also for the kindly thoughts and sympathy that had ever been extended to himself and his family by the district. Over 40 gtfts were received, and an amusing diversion was created by a competition regarding the contents of the various packages. These were then opened and a great variety of valuable and useful gifts were displayed. The competition was won by Miss O. Doig and Mr R. Grice. The greater part of the evening was spent in dancing, Mr A. P. Bruce acting as M. 0., and the music being contributed by Mr W. Rankin, with extras by Mr A. Benmson and Miss M. Beunison. Songs were also given during the evening by Mr G. Struthers and Mr P. Hanrahan.

RAKAIA. A general meeting of the Rakaia Ladies' Hockey Club was held in the library on Thursday evening, Miss F. Cornelius presiding over a good attendance. It was decided to affiliate with the Ashburton Hockey Association, and to enter two teams in the Gala Cup competitions. Final arrangements were made for the dance to be held this month, and the action of the secretary in engaging an orchestra from Christchurch was approved.

MAYFIELD.

The annual householders' meeting* was poorly attended, with the result that a full committee could not be elected. The following were chosen, leaving one vacancy to be filled: Mrs J. Ellery and Messrs D. Edmonds, L. Oakley and R. . Lloyd. At the subsequent meeting of the new committee, Mr D. Edmond was elected chairman and Mr L. Oakley secretary.

ANAMA.

There was a fairly good attendance at the annual meeting of householders, Mr J. Mcl.ver presiding. The report and balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit. A vote of thanks was accorded to the outgoing committee. The meeting failed to elect a committee.
