HINDENBURG'S STATUE.
FAMOUS WOODEN EFFIGY. SOLD FOR A SHILLING. (Per Press Association —Copyright.) ("Sun.") (Received This Day, 8.45 a.m.) BERLIN, May 1. The Nationalists desired to celebrate Marshal von Hindenburg's election to the Presidency by restoring his 120 ft wooden effigy, erected in Berlin m war-time, wherein patriots paid for the privilege of driving nails. Diligent investigation revealed that the statue had been sold to an architect, after the war, for a shilling's worth of paper marks. A wood merchant subsequently purchased it and cut it into firewood.
