INFANTILE PARALYSIS.

THE SUSPECT FROM ELGIN. DIAGNOSIS NOT COMPLETE. There are now five cases of infantile paralysis in the special isolation ward of the Ashburton County Hospital, four of them having been under treatment for some weeks, and the fifth having been in for a day or two. The authorities reported this afternoon that the diagnosis on the latest case, which came from Elgin, has not yet been completed, and the child is still on the suspect list. The other cases are progressing favourably. CANTERBURY DISTRICT TOTAL. 214 CASES, 27 DEATHS. OHRISTCKTJRCH, May 1. An indefinite case of infantile paralysis, a girl %\ years of age, of Sydenham, was reported to-night. j From the time of the outbreak in the Christchurch health district, which comprises Canterbury and the West Coast, until noon to-day, 214 positive cases were reported in the district, and there were 27 deaths. DOMINION NOTIFICATIONS. FOUR CASES IN SOUTH ISLAND. WELLINGTON, May 1. Four notifications of infantile paralysis for the Dominion were received during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day. There were two cases in Christchurch, one at Elgin, and ©neat Dunedin. EPIDEMIC BOOKS CLOSED. A COMPREHENSIVE REPORT. WELLINGTON, May 1. District medical officers have received instructions from the Health Department to close their epidemic books and to furnish reports before the middle of June. All data will be incorporated in a comprehensive report to be issued immediately after compilation.
