Mr C. Reid moved “ That the resolution of June 2. 1916; granting subsidies to Domain and Cemetery Boards, be. rescinded, and that the matter of grants be reviewed.” It was reported that the following amounts had been given as subsidies last year: —Domains: Ashburton £125, Ruapuna £22 10s, Hinds No. 2 £23 10s. Mount Somers £22 10s. Methven £22 10s. Cemeteries: Mayfield £45. The Ashburton Domain catered solely for the townspeople, said Mr J. Moore, and the Borough should support it.

Mr W. T. Lill took a different view. Picnics from the country districts w’ere allowed into the Domain, he said, and were given hot water and milk free. It was one of the beauty spots of the Countv. and was always open to country visitors.
