RECRUITING DISAPPOINTMENT.

4000 BELOW REQUIREMENTS,

(Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Reuter.) (Received This Day, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 12. The Army Estimates for 1025-1926 total £44,500,000, compared with £45,000,000 in 1924-1925.

The establishment of the regular army is 160,000, compared l with 161,000 last year, including 4000 Indian troops employed by the Air Ministry in Iraq. The reduction is due to administrative economies. There will be no reduction in fighting units. There is a shortage of from 2000 to 3000 in the strength of the British Army, excluding British tifoops in India, which approximately is up to the establishment.

Recruiting during the last twelve months has been disappointing, as only 30,000 recruits were obtained out of 34,000 required. The Army reserve totals 74,000, and the; Territorial Army 140,000.
