MID-CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE.

THE MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN

The executive of the Mid-Canterburv branch of the New Zealand Farmers Union met this afternoon. Ihe president (Mr John Brown) presided over an attendance of ten members. The chairman reported that no reply had been received from the Meat Board regarding the grading of lambs. The Mid-Canterbury executive wanted extra payment for quality. The amount of £3O could be forwarded to the union’s headquarters on account of levies. Three branches—Seafiehi. Greenstreet, and Lowcliffe had each promised to take 20 copies of Jhe Farmers’ Weekly” journal. The secretary was instructed to remind the Meat Board that the letter regarding lamb- grading had not been replied to. The union’s organiser (Mr T Buxton) presented a report of his work in the county. On his present trip he had obtained 158 new members. Efforts were being made to form branches at Rakaia, Lauriston, and Eiffel ton, and Cliertsey was anxious to form a separate unit. New members had been enrolled as follow :—Rakaia 50 Hinds 32, Eiffolton 28. Ashburton 22’, Mount Somers 17, Cliertsey 8, Lowcliffe 1.
