Representatives of the Kikosha Society, and an American organisation principally composed of students, visited retail stores, advocating the boycott of American goods. The majority of managers agreed, to the principle of boycott. The manager of the largest departmental store angered a student by declining to give a definite answer, because it was a joint stock concern. He said he was unable to pledge the shareholders. Several managers, warned the agitators of. an Ameriearr counter-boyeott, which Japan could not afford.
