DEATH FROM SNJURiES. (Per Press Association.) TIMARU, June 8. A Claremont schoolboy, aged six years, returning from school, attempted to board a moving motor lorry, with the result that he tell under a wheel, and his left leg was so badly smashed that it had to be amputated. Four hours later the lad died from shock through the injuries received. At the inquest to-day, a verdict of accidental death was returned, the Coroner adding a rider calling the attention of parents and school teachers to the necessity of warning children against the extremely dangerous practice of boarding moving motor vehicles.

PULLED GUN THROUGH FENCE. WHAKATANE, June 7. The schoolmaster at Otaldri, Kenneth Brown, was ' seriously injured through a gunshot wound last evening. He had been out shooting, and when returning home at-dusk pulled the gun by the barrel through a wire fence. The weapon exploded, and the wad and shot entered the lower left chest just below the heart, inflicting a bad wound. Brown was taken to the hospital, where the shot and wad were extracted. Hopes are entertained tor his recovery.
