RACING CLUB.

ELECTION OF OFFICIALS. At the conclusion of the Ashburton Racing Club’s annual meeting yesterday, a committee meeting was held, at which officials were appointed and vacancies on the stew-ards’ committee filled. Mr J. C. N. Grigg was elected president, and Mr H. F. Niccll vicepresident. Air E. F. Niccll was. elected treasurer. The following were appointed stewards:—Messrs A. E. W. Roberts, C. G. Harper, and J. Findlay., Other appointments were:—Handicappcrs, gallops: Mr J. E. Henrys; trots: Mr H. Brinkman; judge, Mr R. H. Oklworth; starter, P. D. McNab; clerk of the scales, Mr A. O. Pilbrow; clerk of the course. Air W. B. Freeman; lion, timekeepers, Messrs F, B. Robilliard, R. G. Shearman, and J. C. C. MeLachlan; hon. surgeons, Doctors G J. S. Fisher, G. W. Coats, and J. Connor; hon. veterinary surgeons, Mr J. R. Kerrigan and Major Stafford. The committee, in framing the programme, considered the set-hack the club had received during the post season. In view of the promised reduction in taxation, however, and in appreciation of the splendid manner in which the owners and public had supported the Club, it was decided not to reduce the stakes.
