RAKAIA. At Hie weekly shoot of Hi© Regain Miniature Rifle Club there was a. fail attendance. In the trophy shoot s. Wilson, handicap 5, tied with A. Oaklev, handicap 1. In the shoot-off S. Wilson won. The Club Hotty _ Button for the week went to H. Cromie, with .a possible. For Mr R. Oakley's cup for *the most possibles put on in Hotty Button shoots, G. Cromie and H. Cromie have so far tied with two each. It has been decided to hold the shooting night this week on Thursday, because of the hall being engaged on the Friday. The Club will have one team to represent them at the Championship meeting at Christchurch on Saturday. The team will consist of G. Cromie, H. Cromie, L. Oakley, A. Oakley, and one ©ther.

PENDARVES. On Friday evening in the Pendarves Hall the spinsters and bachelors of Pendarves gave their annual ball. Unfortunately the number of cases of sickness in the district militated against a large attendance, but the fifty couples present had a. really enjoyable time, ’the decorative scheme carried out was both elaborate and tasteful. Streamers of apricot and jade-green, caught up at a point above, and interspersed with manycoloured balloons and Japanese sunshades made a. gay setting for the beautiful frocks worn. Miss K. Penny &U*d her committee are to be congratiilated on the success of the decorative 'Scheme. The floor was in good order, and Mr Archie Bruce acted as AI/O. Splendid music was rendered by_ Mr Rankin’s orchestra, who provided some of the latest and best selections. Ample provision was made for refreshments, two suppers being served. Features of the dancing were the balloon dance, a confetti dance, and a streamer dance.

During the evening Mr J. Lanibie, on behalf of the benedicts, thanked the spinsters and bachelors for their hospitality. Air H. R. Wilkinson returned thanks on behalf of the visitors, and Mr C. H. Hampton responded on behalf of the spinsters and bachelors. A twilight dance and '“*Auld Lang Syne” ended a very enjoy able gathering.
