EMPIRE WIRELESS
PRESSMEN URCE HASTE.
IMPORTANCE OF SCHEME.
TWELVE MONTHS TO WAIT. (Pei- Press Association, Copyright). (Received This Day, 11.55 a.m.) 'LONDON, July 23. Lord Burnham, propritor of the “Daily Telgraph, introduced a deputation from the Empire Press Union to Sir Worthington Evans, M.P. The deputation, which was representative of all the Dominions, urged the pressing forward of the proposed Imperial wireless service. Sir Worthington Evans said the question -was one of national and imperial importance, for it was imperative to evolve a workable commercial scheme. He denied that there had been unnecessary delays and pointed out that the issue should be settled within a month. Thereafter there
would be nothing to prevent the erection of a high-power station, which should be operative Within 12 to 18 months. The Government’s object in the present negotiations oyer licenses, was to secure private enterprise with a, minimum of Government control. Ho hoped the wireless rate would always be lower than the cable lates, though there 'would doubtless be competition.
