MURDERER EXECUTED.
AN UNAVAILING FAST. NEW YORK, March 3. At Chicago, Harvey Church was too weak to stand after 43 days’ fast, and was hanged while strapped to a chair. Immediately following sentence of death for murdering two motor-car salesmen to obtain a motor, Church lay on a cot and refused to eat. Physicians declared he finally succeeded in hypnotising himself into unconsciousness. Forcible feeding kept him alive until the day of execution.
