THE IRISH NEGOTIATIONS.

DIE-HARDS TAKING ACTION. FORECAST AS TO RESULT. (Per Press Association, Copyright.) LONDON, October 28. Colonel Gretton will move, and Mr j It. S. Gwynne will second "The Diehards" censure motion on Monday, which the Press generally anticipates will result m an overwhelming vote of confidence m the Government, a majority of all parties believing that the only alterantiye to negotiations is real, determined warfare." The "Evening Standard" says wellinformed quarters admit ,that the' Peace Conference has not made any real progress hitherto. Sir L. Worthington Evans, speaking at Readftig, said many people were surprised at the Government negotiating with the Irish Republican leaders, whose army had been guilty of dastardly offences, but it was a statesman's duty to do the best possible for the country and Empire, and try to enable .the government of Ireland to be carried on without bloodshed. The people of Great Britain would not go to war if it were possible to escape it, but ;if the Empire's safety were at stake they would do so, and carry it on to a successful conclusion. Every chance of bringing about conciliation would, however, first be taken.
