They were: particul'arlj'• severe in Bengali, where a number of villages were wept away. At Jamshedpur : '1000 huts in tShe native quarter" were destroyed. Many people are- homeless. Large areas of crops in 'various disti'ictshave been destroyed. The -main streets of; Calcutta are deeply flooded,; and traffic is suspended. Heavy damage has been done to property. ;
