AUCKLAND, August 10. While operations a-t the coal mines of the 'thoree Auckland companies have gone on without a hitch' for at least a week, the output, according to the reports of all but one of the parties^.fe not up to the mark. The inference, of course, ,is that something better in the way, of effort could be' put forward by tihe'miners. The Hikurangi Company is the exception, enquiries made this morning eliciting the 'information that their, men had * riot .'been 'doing^ Jbadlv. In the meantime., of course, city folk are feeling the effect of the restricted output. In some out "districts men are felling pine and maijrocarpa trees, and cutting the., timber u|>\f!>r firewood to supply the Urgent needs', of residents. Fir. oones are, now^peinErjFnld at 3<* per sack~,to "keep' the home firp* burningV. until .coal is more, plentiful.' ;-''•' ; ■"U'^' .;
