NOXIOUS WEEDS.
George Brand (Wakanui) pleaded not guilty to tailing to clear Californian thistle from his property.
C. Branigan (Inspector of Noxious Weeds) said that Brand was the talk of the district for the manner in which he allowed thistle to grow on his farm. He solely relied on sheep to clear the nuisance. .
Defendant considered that the samples of. thistles produced in the Court b*- the inspector were not off his property. He had cut over 100 acres of his land affected by this weed. Other people in his neighbourhood relied on sheep to clear thistle from their property and nothing was, said to them. A fine of £5, with 7s costs, was imposed. For a similar offence James Walker (Tinwald) was convicted and fined £2^ with 7s costs.
