The Crown Prince Humbert of Italy (born in 1904) will begin a world tour in the autumn. His itinerary includes Australia.
The funeral of the lato Mr John Brankin took' place yesterday. ' There was a very large following of friends to the graveside, where' the Rev. Dean O'Donnell officiated at the burial ceremonies.- The Ash burton Racing and Trotting Clubs sent wreaths, and were represented at the funeral. Messrs D. Warren, A. Pringle, R. McDonnell, and F. Holmes, well-known horsetrainers, acted as pall-bearers. Racing and sportsmen from all parts of Canterbury came to pay their last'respects, to tho dead.
Mr J. E. Purchase, Iwadm&ster of the Normal Training ....College, Christchurch, and formerly or' Ashburton, is spending a short holidaly in Ashburton.
Mrs Elizabeth E., Jaine,-aoa oH resident of Longbeach, died suddenly last night. She had been visiting some friends with her husbandj 5'- and while walking home complained of pains and collapsed on his arm, death, being almost immediate. -
