COLDSTREAM ROAD BOARD.
The monthly, meeting of < the Coldstream Road .Board ,was held on Friday last. Present: Messrs W. MeKeage (chairman), W. Jewell, D. Shaw and J. Brown, v. An apology-was received from Mr,EL Wills on account of illness.
The clerk's,report was received and it was resolved to • take action to compel the clearance <of gorso, if; the work is not started . during the present month. '.;'.'•
A letter was received from the Mayor of Ashburton, that at a meeting of County and , Borough Councillors a resolution was passed, favouring a permanent war memorial being erected. The clerk was instructed to reply that the Board was in.favour of the memorial. A letter was received from the Crown Solicitor transferring Wairuna Estate to the 1 King.
The Canterbury Progress League wrote that the- annual general" meeting of the council of the League would be held in Christchurch on July 9, and asking that names and addresses of delegates bo forwarded.
The clerk was. instructed to report on gorse near Ealing, .and also to inspect races on Main South Road to Ealing with a view of piping and to order necessary timber for> rails, f Mr Jewell* moved, "That in accordance with notice-piven, that a general rate of one fart 1 in thf. £ be now made," seconded .by Mr D.. Shaw and carried unanimously..
Mr sewell,5ewell,- who had been ■ appointed; the Board's'representative.-at*the meet-, ing for abolition of dual, control on June 14, gave a full account of what had been proposed at that meeting. A\ hearty vote of thanks was given Mr Jewell' for tlie information :h;e. had given i. them;: • . • Accounts- amounting., to-. £25' 16s 8d! were passed'for payment.
