WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Wakaoui Road Board was held on Saturday last. Members present were: Messrs James Brtico (chairman), W. Anderson, F. Frampton, It. McElhinney, and
J. D. Watson. The chairman reported a credit balance at the Bank of £353 16s 3d.
The Minister of Internal Affairs wrote stating that Cabinet had decided that the Government subsidy would be payable only in respect of expenditure in connection with celebrations on July 19. As regards railway services, soldiers and children would be carried free on trains only on the 19th, if the Minister of Railways could so arrange, provided children would only be conveyed to the nearest town from their place of residence in which celebrations were to be held.—Received. The Canterbury Progress^ League wrote enclosing copies of "Primary industries of Canterbury," by C. A. Hoiford, 13. Ag.—Received. The Canterbury Automobile Association wrote asking the Board to reconsider the matter of improvement to the culvert at McConochie's Corner.—The matter, was left in the chairman s hands. . The chairman was appointed the Board's delegate to the conference of the Canterbury Progress League, at Christchurch, July 9. The 'Mayor of Ashburton. wrote concerning a'permanent war memorial.— It was decided to reply that the Board was in favour of a permanent memorial to be erected in Ashburton, to be in the form of a statue with the names of fallen soldiers engraved thereon. The Public Works Department wrote enclosing application forms for provision to be made on the current year s estimates for road or bridge construction works.—Received. The following transfer was granted: T McDowell to Hugh McCosker, Lot 13, D.P. 289, R.S. 17130, 17272 Accounts amounting to £26 14s 9d were passed for payment.
