GALE AT WANGANUI.
WANGANUI, July 4. An exceptionally heavy gale which has boen raging during the last couple of days resulted in the sea breaking through the south spit, making a gap about halT a chain in.extent. A gang of men is employed in filling up .the gap with sand bags, which have stopped the flow of sea, water.' The encroachment, means that the board will be faced with an expenditure.of several thousand pounds.
